INF 7990: Research and Directed Study

Rationale for inclusion in curriculum

This course is included in the curriculum in order to provide maximum opportunity for students to pursue individual interests in library and information science.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  1. Identify a researchable topic.
  2. Design an effective research method.
  3. Conduct a comprehensive literature search.
  4. Produce a comprehensible report of findings.

Course methodology

Topic to be researched and research design must be approved by the faculty member supervising the project, the Director of the School of Library and Information Science, and the Dean of University Libraries.

Bases for evaluation of student performance

Final written report of study; progress reports.
