Online Programs

Description

The SLIS offers an online option for its Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree and select certificates to meet the needs of students who cannot attend physical classes. All coursework for the online option is conducted online and includes the same content as the on-campus program delivered by the School’s full-time and adjunct faculty.

The School encourages applicants from anywhere in North America.  All online students pay resident tuition!  There are no additional costs for non-residents to complete the online program.

Please note:  the Graduate Certificates in Archival Administration, Arts and Museum Librarianship and Urban Librarianship are not offered online.

Orientation

All online MLIS students wishing are required to attend the SLIS’s mandatory on-campus orientation prior to beginning classes.

Technology Requirements

To attend lectures, communicate with professors and peers and complete assignments, students will use online video conferencing, e-mail, chat rooms and other Web-based technologies.  Students selected for the online MLIS program must meet all technology requirements listed at http://slis.wayne.edu/technology-requirements.php prior to the first day of class.

Students interested in using some of these technologies before enrolling in the SLIS may enroll in the SLIS's Blackboard Basics course. This non-credit course shows prospective students how to get around in Blackboard, including how to electronically submit assignments, post to the discussion boards, send e-mail, and take a Blackboard quiz. Videos, text and interactive "Try It" exercises will familiarize students with how a potential online course may be structured.

To take the course, please visit www.blackboard.wayne.edu. Login and password are both lispreview.

Tuition and fees

Online MLIS students are charged the same tuition and fee rates as in-state, on-campus students. There are no out of state tuition and fee rates. For current rates, please visit http://slis.wayne.edu/tuition.php.  Note:  this tuition differential does not apply to on-campus courses.
