Graduate Certificate in Records and Information Management

The online Graduate Certificate in Records and Information Management (RIM) provides professional education to individuals wishing to successfully manage records and information within public and private sector organizations. Effective and efficient RIM policies and procedures are increasingly important to every organization. This online graduate certificate is the first to focus solely on RIM.

After completing this curriculum, RIM students are more prepared to assume professional roles as records managers, archivists, corporate librarians, imaging specialists, legal professionals, IT managers, consultants, and educators. RIM professionals are found in a wide variety of industries, including government, legal, healthcare, financial services, and petroleum in the United States, Canada, and 30-plus other countries.

Offered completely online, the curriculum and certificate are founded in professional competencies recognized by the leading RIM professional association. RIM classes complement and strengthen the SIS's existing degree and certificates and are suitable for students with diverse backgrounds and interests.

The 15-credit RIM certificate program includes 9 hours of required coursework and 6 hours of elective coursework. To obtain both the MLIS degree and the RIM graduate certificate, students are required to complete an additional 6 credits beyond the 36 required for the MLIS degree. For additional information, students are referred to the Degree and Certificate Requirements regulations as stated in the Wayne State University Graduate Bulletin.

Student interested in pursuing only the RIM certificate should review our Certificate policy. Before enrolling in the RIM certificate, students must meet the program's technology requirements.
