Arts and Museum Librarianship Certificate Admissions

As a signature offering of the School of Library and Information Science, the goal of the Arts and Museum Librarianship Certificate is to enroll highly-qualified students with a demonstrated interest in the fine or performing arts or museums who are enthused to spend about a year in Detroit focused primarily on this certificate.  All students in the AML certificate will receive in-state tuition.

Enhanced Admissions Criteria:

  1. Minimum 3.5 GPA (if MLIS already completed) or completion of LIS 6010, 6080, 6120, 6210, and 7040 with a minimum 3.75 GPA across these 5 core courses.  (Thus incoming Fall 2011 MLIS students would not be eligible for AML Certificate admission until Fall 2012.)
  2. Personal statement, 750 words, that details why the applicant feels he/she has the background to pursue the certificate and what career plans he/she has after receiving the certificate
  3. At least 2 letters of reference that attest to the applicant’s desire and aptitude for pursuing this advanced certificate
  4. Personal interview (in person or web-based)

Enrollment in this certificate is limited to a maximum of fifteen students per year.  Students will matriculate as a cohort.  All application materials must be received by July 1.

Students who have already already been admitted to the MLIS program should submit a change of status form.  The change of status form, personal statement, and letters of reference can be directed to:
