Biography

Sandra G. Yee has been dean of the Wayne State University Library System since May 2001. As dean, she is responsible for the libraries, the Library and Information Science master's program, the Office for Teaching and Learning and the general education course, UGE 1000. Since her appointment, Yee has encouraged the shift from print information to digital information and reorganized the libraries from a building-centered operation to a service operation.

Yee joined Wayne State from Eastern Michigan University, where she served as associate dean of Learning Resources and Technologies. She was at Eastern Michigan University since her appointment of coordinator of access services in 1982 and has held positions of increasing responsibility until her appointment as department head in 1990. She played a leadership role in the development of the Bruce T. Halle Library which was opened in 1998. Previously, she was coordinator of library services at Muskegon Community College.

Yee has been active in a number of professional organizations including the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Michigan Library Consortium and the OCLC Advisory Committee on College and University Libraries. She served as president of the Michigan Library Association from 1993 to 1994 and was named their librarian of the year in 1999.
