Lynda Baker

Lynda M. Baker was a registered nurse for 15 years before attending University of California, Berkeley, to obtain a bachelor’s degree. She joined the Library and Information Science Program at Wayne State University in 1993, where she is an Associate Professor. She teaches courses on health sciences librarianship, consumer health, advanced reference and research methods. Her research focuses on various aspects of consumer health, including the information needs of people with multiple sclerosis, the readability of consumer health material and the provision of consumer health information by public libraries in Michigan. She also published a book on consumer health entitled Consumer Health Information for Public Librarians.

Baker's current research concerns women involved in street-level prostitution and she has authored, or co-authored, articles on health and other issues. For a number of years, she has been involved in organizing the annual national conference on Prostitution, Sex Work and the Commercial Sex Industry.
